My NaNoWriMo 2008

Chapter 28 is done... So we have a wrap up, but not necessarily a happy ending.

Arabella and Denrisi are going to be together, but Arabella's family is still divided. Her mother is still angry. By you know how it goes...

I feel... well.. drained. It is not because I am out of ideas, I'm just disappointed that this story is over. I am satisfied with my characters and plot.

Now I need to rewrite. . .

Chapter 27 is done... Well I think Koaner is mental. He actually runs away and hides.

Arabella personally puts the lid on him.

I think that she really does not want him killed, after all he is family.
Of course it could but just as simple as protecting Denrisi. If Koaner isn't loose then Denrisi does not have to fight him and so he stays safe and sound.

I still have one more chapter in order to wrap up my novel...

Chapter 26 is done... That was a close one. Denrisi got lucky that Arabella can do her magic again. Without it he was toast.

It is a good thing that he is a dragon and can survive any of the abuse I can dish out.

I am very close to the end of the novel... I am getting nervous about rewriting... I guess it is time for the wicked ones to get their just deserts...

Chapter 25 is done...

That was a toughy. One whole chapter given to a dragon fight. It seems that evil does triumph in the end... Denrisi is a tough dragon and he plays dirty too... I wonder if that is a dragon trait.

Chapter 24 is done... Wow three chapters today. If I had the option, I could finish the book tonight, but alas I'm a working girl. I am past my 50,000 word goal.

So it is bed time. My heroes have split into two parties - one to retrieve a magic sword; the other to fight a dragon...

My word, those meddling fairies showed up again. I didn't figure out there characters before I started writing, but they have emerged. The blue fairy is a leader, the green fairy is a follower, and the white fairy is just unhinged. I almost get the feeling that the other two fairies are there to babysit her.

It is funny that the chapters that I thought were going to be short and hard to write just seemed to write themselves.

Now watch me have problems writing the dragon fight scene. I've been looking forward to this chapter since I came up with it... Oh boy...

Temper temper... Denrisi has quite a temper on him. I suppose that it is reasonable considering he is a dragon...

Chapter 23 if done. If Denrisi could change into his human form they would probably be making out.

Arabella finally broke down and said she loved Denrisi. He is extremely happy right now.

Don't worry, it won't last long.

Oh he's back... Chapter 22 is finished. That was a trip. Arabella was attacked by the three good fairies. Finally they cornered her and Stig tells her he loves her... I could just slap that weasel. Why can't he be good and stop complicating things.

Denrisi shows up saves Arabella from the fairies. I left the end of the chapter with her still flying around with him. The next chapter I think is a rest stop and gathering of allies. . . It is the end of Act II. Act III is only going to be about 4 chapters...

Well I broke 45,000 words today. Chapter 21 is finished.

This was a chapter that flowed out. There was not a lot of action, but there was some comic relief.

I think all the characters needed a break to eat and sleep. I am wondering why the weasel and the prince have a sort of rivalry going on. I did not plan on it, but Stig really does not like the prince. I'm asking myself if it is over Arabella or is it over the food bag?

Chapter 20 is finished... That was a blast. Action, danger, fear, heroic sacrifice. Well almost sacrifice anyway...

Nothing proves how devoted your weasel is like a river monster attack...

I am now over 43,000 words and nearly to the end of act II.

I am now building towards the final act, after I dry out my characters....

Chapter 19 has put me over 40,000 words... This was one of the chapters where everything fell into place. It was not even hard to write.

It did take me all day though because of interuptions.


Arabella and Stig are suspicious that someone is trying to stop them from getting where they are going... They even go so far as to lay the blame on Arabella's mother...

Yeah... Chapter 18 was a tough one.

I wasn't that it was hard to write, I just had a lot of interruptions.

I am now up to 38,200 words... Yeah the first of three trials is done and she has a magic knife to boot.

Well it is bed time for children so I need to shoo them to dream land. Of course they are kicking and screaming every step of the way.

Chapter 17 took me all day to write. I was going to add this scene to chapter 16 but it would have made it too long. So I was going to add it to the next scene, but it is so dramatic that it needed a chapter all of it's own.

Problem: It was too short. I was sitting at 1200 words so I had to rewrite it to add enough words to make it 2017.

Problem: My inner editor thought I had taken her to the candy store and said to buy whatever she wanted. I did not catch myself until I had rewrote the chapter three times. It got longer a little bit each time, but I cut nearly as much as I added.

Anyway, she is now under control and the dragon is fighting with King Waldemarr. I am sitting at 36,201 words... Good Night. Sweet Dreams Inner Editor may you prick your finger on a spindle and sleep until December 1st.

I am at 34,184 words... I have the feeling that I have climbed a mountain and at any moment I will be sliding down the other side.

Chapter 16 is finished. Enter Stig, again. He lends moral support to my lonely Heroine. He also makes sure that she eats. Without his constant need to eat, I think that Arabella would starve.

He is my favorite secondary character. I am glad he turned out to be a good guy. At the beginning of the book it was iffy.

Well I have written over 5000 words today, but since part of that was notes on plot only 4220 count towards my novel...

32,017 words... Chapter 15 is done.

I usually love my villains, but this time I have out done myself.

Koaner is just morally twisted. He doesn't even give an excuse for himself. I do not even think he realizes he is wrong. Than again maybe he does. This could be a conscious decision to be evil...

Denrisi may know, but he is slain...

Now the hard part. I need to plot Act 2. If I get inspired I'll plot Act 3 as well. I will just have to see how it goes...

29,964 words and chapter fourteen is done. This was a hard chapter to write.

I had to picture the fight in my head and try to describe it...

Oh poor poor Denrisi. I'm afraid I broke my heroine's heart... All done for today. Tomorrow I will just make things worse for Arabella. It is time for her to face her sentence of death.

Yikes!... Chalk one up for a smooth talking dragon. Chapter 13 was a great piece to write. Made me hungry for berries covered in whip cream and sangria...

If I were to analyze why Denrisi gets his feelings hurt and gives up so quickly is because he was expecting Arabella to reject him.

It is hard for a centuries-old man to admit to a pretty girl that he is in love with her.

My word count is now up to 28,020. I could stay up all night and write but I need to stew on the plot. The next two chapters are fine. It is the details after those two chapters that is fuzzy.

Chapter 12 is done... I am at 25,822  words... Over half way there to the NaNoWriMo goal of 50,000.

Denrisi demanded another chapter.

23,782 words and climbing. I am done with Chapter Eleven... That was good. You got to peek at Denrisi's personality. A little of his history.

Arabella is shy with him. This will only get worse in the next chapter.

It is bed time... waaaah, I want to write the next chapter. I don't want to go to bed... (lays on floor kicking and screaming)

Well time to update my word count. I need to get the next picture ready...

21,952 words... This was a had bout of words. Too much noise; too many distractions...

But Denrisi has shown up. He should be fun. I was only going to have Arabella spend overnight in his cave, but I might have her spend a few days getting to know him.

Eeeeeek! I just broke the 20,000 word mark... Chapter 9 is finished.

It took me less than 3 hours to write a chapter. I had a lot of interruption, including helping my husband with his homework....

I would like to write the next chapter. I want to introduce Denrisi so badly.

I hope my description of the bear was real enough. I used to dream of that insane bear when I was a teenager. He used to try to break into my house to get me in my dreams.

The person who said write what you know, said a great deal. The scene where Arabella and Stig find the deer skeleton under the brush was one of my adventure. I had tried to take a short cut through the brush one day and ended up on my belly face to face with a deer skeleton. I was at the point of no return so I had to keep going until I came out the other side of the brush.

I should be halfway to my NaNoWriMo goal after the next two chapters. I'm not sure I will be halfway through the story though.
